**How to order negative numbers**

**Look** at the direction that you need to order in, ascending or descending.

Place in ascending order** 18 19 22 21 20 **

**If** ascending look for the smallest number first, by comparing the first digit of each number.

So the smallest number is** 18
**

** - **If you have more than one number starting with the same digit, you then need to compare the next set of digits in those numbers ie- **15 12**** **would
become** 12 15**

** **So you now have **18** followed by **19, **repeat
the process until all the numbers are used.

** **So the ascending order is** 18 19 20 21 22**

**If** descending look for the largest number first, by comparing the first digit of each number.

So the largest number is** 22
**

** **** - **If you have more than one number starting with the same digit, you then need to compare the next set of digits in those numbers ie- **15 12**** **would
stay as** 15 12**** **as 5 is larger than 2 in descending order.

** **So you now have **22** followed by **21, **repeat this process until all the numbers are used.

** **So the descending order is** ****22 21 20 19 18**
