How to add decimals mentally using place values
To add a pair of decimal numbers together that both end in tenths, use place value to help you, by taking the decimal point out, re-write the new sum with a note in brackets to show you have moved both numbers one place to the left, once answered move the number one place to the right again to give the correct answer.
Example 1.7 + 2.9
17 + 29 = 46 (1dp)
