How to subtract numbers from each other mentally

To subtract two numbers from each other you start by subtracting the units of the second number from the first number, then if there are tens in the second  number you then subtract these from your new total .

Example 1-      34 - 6 = 28

Example 2-      34 - 17 =  34 - 7 = 27 and then 27 - 10 = 17
